Who Can Apply? – Eligibility Criteria for SSR (Medical Assistant) 02/2024

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB), securing 50% marks in aggregate and at least 40% in each subject. Only students from Ministry of Education-recognized Boards are eligible to apply.

Age Limit

The age limit is crucial! You must be born between 1st November 2003 and 30th April 2007 to qualify for this recruitment drive. Both dates are inclusive.
 

Pay & Perks: What Can You Expect?

During your initial training, you will receive a stipend of ₹14,600 per month. Once you complete the training successfully, your salary will increase significantly. You’ll be placed in Level 3 of the Defence Pay Matrix, with a pay range of ₹21,700 – ₹69,100.

In addition, you’ll receive Military Service Pay (MSP) of ₹5200 per month, along with Dearness Allowance (DA). These allowances add a substantial amount to your overall income.

The Selection Process: How Do You Get Selected?

Stage I: Shortlisting

The first stage is shortlisting based on your 10+2 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The cut-off marks vary from state to state, so make sure your scores meet the criteria for your home state. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Stage II, which includes Physical Fitness Tests (PFT), a written exam, and a medical exam.
 

Stage II: Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

To pass the PFT, you’ll need to demonstrate your physical strength and endurance. The test includes:
- 1.6 km run to be completed within **6 minutes and 30 seconds**
- 20 squats (Uthak Baithak)
- 15 pushups
- 15 bent-knee situps

Make sure to prepare well in advance for this as it’s a mandatory part of the selection process!
 

Stage II: Written Exam

The written test will be objective and divided into four sections:
1. English
2. Science
3. Biology
4. General Awareness & Reasoning

Each section carries 25 marks, and the duration of the exam is one hour. The difficulty level is 10+2 standard, so brushing up on your basics is key.
 

Stage II: Medical Examination

Once you clear the written test and PFT, you will undergo a Recruitment Medical Examination to ensure you meet the physical standards required for the job. The Indian Navy takes medical fitness very seriously, so make sure you are in top physical condition.

Training & Career Growth: Starting Your Journey

Your training begins in November 2024 at INS Chilka, where you will undergo basic training followed by professional training in the Medical Branch. This is where you’ll learn the skills you need to succeed as a Medical Assistant, both onshore and at sea.
